Comparison
Dynamics 365 has a built-in bulk edit. It works for quick fixes. But when your team needs reviewed, validated, audited updates at scale, the native tool wasn't designed for that job. Here's the difference.
| Feature | Dynamics 365 Native | Corral Works |
|---|---|---|
| Select records to update | Grid view with basic filters and checkboxes | Flexible query builder with field-level conditions |
| Preview changes before saving | No — changes apply immediately | Full diff preview showing every field that will change |
| Field validation | Standard Dataverse validation only at save time | Pre-commit validation with business-rule awareness |
| Rollback | Manual undo, record by record, if you remember what changed | One-click rollback for the entire batch |
| Audit trail | Standard Dataverse audit log (if enabled per field) | Dedicated batch audit log — who, what, when, exportable |
| Multi-table updates | One table at a time | Related-record updates in a single batch |
| Environment targeting | Current environment only | Cross-environment with diff preview (Dev → Test → Prod) |
| Who can use it | Anyone with write access to the table | Enforced security roles with batch-level permissions |
The built-in bulk edit is fine for updating a picklist value on ten records. It was not designed for the kind of reviewed, high-stakes data updates that advancement and CRM teams do every week.
Dynamics 365's bulk edit applies changes immediately. If you select 200 records and set the wrong field value, you've just updated 200 records incorrectly — and now you need to figure out which ones to fix.
Need to update accounts and their related contacts in one pass? Native bulk edit can't do it. You run two separate edits and hope nothing shifts between them.
Testing a data change in Dev, then applying it in Prod? That's a manual process — export, import, verify. Corral lets you preview the same batch against any connected environment.
The Dataverse audit log tells you a field changed, but not why, not which batch it belonged to, and not who authorized it. Corral's audit log gives you the full picture.
We're not suggesting you stop using Dynamics 365's bulk edit for quick, low-risk changes. Corral Works is for the updates that need a preview, a review step, and an audit trail — the ones where getting it wrong means rework, compliance issues, or unhappy stakeholders.
Corral Works adds preview, validation, rollback, and audit on top of your Dynamics 365 environment — no replacement, no migration.
